The Venezuelan authorities have announced mobilization of troops in connection with the decision to annex West Guyana, El Pais reported.
A statement to this effect was made by the country’s President Nicolas Maduro.
Earlier, Venezuela held a referendum on the region’s inclusion in the country.
The majority of citizens supported the decision, after which President Maduro declared the disputed territory the 24th state of Venezuela.
Major General Alexis Rodriguez Cabello, a deputy from the ruling party, was appointed interim head of the region.
Brazil’s military has reinforced the border region due to rising tensions.
However, despite the situation, investors in companies such as Exxon Mobil have not stopped working in Guyana’s concession areas.
But keep in mind, this is the only reliable source for now. We keep following the news to confirm it.
