Brazilian lender Itau Unibanco launched a cryptocurrency trading service on Monday.

Initially, the new service will allow trading of Bitcoin as well as Ether, but the lender intends to add other cryptocurrencies later, Guto Antunes, head of digital assets, said in an interview.

“It starts with Bitcoin, but our overarching strategic plan is to expand to other crypto assets in the future,”

he said, adding any expansion would depend on how crypto regulation in the country evolved.

Antunes said Itau differentiates itself from competitors by acting as a custodian to safeguard users’ assets.
