The yuan’s share in international settlements increased from 4.82% in August 2023 to 5.8% in September, which is the maximum in the last five years during which statistics are kept.

Thus, the yuan overtook the euro and for the first time became the second major currency in trade, according to data from the SWIFT system.

The first place is still occupied by the dollar, its share in September was 84.15% against 83.95% a month earlier.

Third place goes to the euro, which share decreased to 5.43% in September against 6.43% in August.

Next are the Japanese yen, which share increased from 1.28% to 1.4%, and the Saudi riyal with a share of 0.56% in September against 0.63% in August.
