The new authorities of Niger have suspended the export of uranium and gold to France, Mehr News reported.
Niger is the seventh producer of uranium in the world. In 2021, it accounted for nearly 25% of all EU uranium imports, helping to generate electricity for millions of households.
It is also accounted for 15% to 17% of the uranium used for electricity generation in France.
Earlier French President Emmanuel Macron said he would not tolerate attacks on France and its interests in Niger and threatened an “immediate and unyielding” response.
