Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte will disband his cabinet after the four parties in the government coalition disagreed on asylum seeker policy, the Dutch news agency ANP reported.
Rutte’s fourth coalition government reportedly collapsed as it could not agree how to limit the number of asylum seekers in the Netherlands.
Rutte’s conservative VVD party demanded tough measures in Dutch immigration policy, which did not meet unanimous support in the coalition.
Asylum applications in the Netherlands jumped by a third last year to more than 46,000, and the government has projected they can to increase to more than 70,000 this year – topping the previous high of 2015.
