The new gas hub will be established in the south of Iran in the industrial region of Asaluyeh located on the coast of the Persian Gulf.
Iran has the world’s second-largest proven gas reserves, with 33 trillion cubic meters of recoverable resources, according to Owji.
“We aim to turn the Persian Gulf and Asaluyeh into a gas hub with the assistance of Russia, Turkmenistan and Qatar,” the minister said.
He did not disclose the details of the project, noting only that the necessary preparations are underway and a plan for the program is being drawn up.
Earlier in mid-May, Owji reported that Tehran was discussing cooperation with Moscow on ten oil and gas fields. As Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak noted then, work on some of them is already ongoing.
