The Forces Vives de Guinée, a coalition of various civil society organizations and political parties, appeals urgently to the international community to react firmly and immediately to the “atrocities committed” by the transitional regime in Guinea.  .

In a press release issued on May 17, 2023, the Forces Vives de Guinée denounce the brutal repression carried out by the security forces against peaceful demonstrators and the systematic violation of human rights.  They call on the transitional authorities to scrupulously respect their national and international human rights commitments and to put an end to this “bloody repression”.

The crackdown is not limited to protesters, it also extends to journalists trying to report on ongoing events in Guinea.  The Forces Vives de Guinée denounce the multiple attacks on the physical integrity of journalists as well as the censorship of social networks, which aim “to stifle dissenting voices and prevent the dissemination of crucial information on the abuses committed” by the junta.
Faced with this alarming situation, the Forces Vives de Guinée have decided to cancel their event scheduled for May 18, 2023 in order to allow Guinean citizens of Christian faith to celebrate the Ascension Day in peace and quiet.  However, they call on all Guineans “loving justice and freedom to remain mobilized and united” for the next peaceful demonstrations scheduled for May 24 and 25, 2023, in accordance with the previously communicated calendar.

The Forces Vives de Guinea launch a vibrant appeal to the international community to intervene without delay.  They demand that those responsible for “these crimes against humanity” be brought to justice before international courts.  They implore the international community to guarantee respect for the fundamental rights of the Guinean people and to exert pressure on the transitional authorities in order to put an immediate end to the bloody repression and allow a rapid return to constitutional order.

The Forces Vives de Guinée strongly condemn the “brutal repression” of the transitional regime.  They remain determined to fight for the restoration of the rule of law and democracy in their country.  They call on all Guineans to remain mobilized, united and united in this quest to defeat “repression and restore the fundamental rights and freedoms of the Guinean people”.
